12. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
12.1 What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit the Portal. We also use related technologies including web beacons, pixel tags, conversion tracking scripts, and social media pixels. These technologies help us operate the Portal, measure the effectiveness of advertisements and social media promotions, and improve the user experience.
12.2 Types of Technologies We Use
- Essential Cookies: strictly necessary for the Portal to function, including account login, session management, and security protections. These cannot be disabled without impairing Portal functionality.
- Functional Cookies: remember your preferences and settings, such as language selection and previously viewed categories.
- Analytics Cookies: collect aggregated, de-identified data about how users navigate the Portal, which pages are most visited, and how long users spend on content. We use tools such as Google Analytics for this purpose.
- Advertising and Conversion Pixels: used to measure the performance of banner advertisements and social media promotions. For example, Meta Pixel may be used to track conversions from Facebook and Instagram advertisements. This data helps Advertisers understand the reach and effectiveness of their promotions. These pixels are used only for agreed advertising placements and with appropriate disclosure.
- Marketing Cookies: used only with your explicit consent, to display relevant Portal content or advertisements to you on other platforms. You may withdraw consent at any time.
12.3 Managing Cookies
You may control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies and to receive alerts when they are set. Disabling certain cookies may impair some Portal features. You may also opt out of Google Analytics tracking at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout and manage Meta advertising preferences via your Facebook account settings.
13. Direct Marketing
We may use your contact details to send you information about the Portal, new advertising categories, upcoming community events, featured Islamic content, and Portal news. We will only send direct marketing communications:
- With your explicit prior consent obtained at registration or subsequently; or
- Where permitted under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) for existing account holders in relation to services similar to those already used
We may also use social media platforms to serve targeted promotional content to audiences who have engaged with The Believers' social media pages or Portal, based on platform-provided audience tools. Where we do this, we do so in accordance with the relevant platform's terms and advertising policies.
Every marketing email includes a clear, functional unsubscribe link. We process all unsubscribe requests within 5 business days. We will never provide your contact details to third parties for their own marketing purposes without your explicit consent.
14. Third-Party Links and Social Media Platforms
The Portal contains links to external websites, social media profiles, and content platforms operated by Muslim organisations, businesses, and third parties. This Privacy Policy does not apply to any external website or platform. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any external site or social media platform before providing your personal information.
